500 For Life: New Group Awards Thermal Imagers to Firefighters
The newly launched charitable organization, 500 For Life, the founder of which was inspired by a showing of "Into the Fire" last year, announced its first round of thermal imaging camera awards.
Sometimes it takes persistence and creativity to spread the important message of "Into the Fire" to as many people as possible. Greg Collier, New Jersey Advocate of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation's "Everyone Goes Home" Firefighter Life Safety Initiative Program, has even gone to the beach to get the word out about the pressing needs of under-funded local fire departments.
Last month, the massive Southern California wildfires destroyed more than 500,000 acres of land, caused the deaths of ten people, and prompted the evacuation of more than one million residents. As we recognize the courage and dedication of the firefighters who battled these terrible fires, we are reminded yet again of the crucial need for adequate equipment and training for first responders from all parts of the country.
