Grant Round-Up

Last month, the massive Southern California wildfires destroyed more than 500,000 acres of land, caused the deaths of ten people, and prompted the evacuation of more than one million residents. As we recognize the courage and dedication of the firefighters who battled these terrible fires, we are reminded yet again of the crucial need for adequate equipment and training for first responders from all parts of the country. To date, we've donated more than 14 million dollars in Heritage® grants to fire departments and fire and burn prevention organizations in the U.S., with four million dollars earmarked for wildfire-prone California. Major grants in the area have included $250,000 for CERT training in San Diego and $345,000 for the San Diego County Burn Institute for fire prevention/education programs and campaigns.

Fire departments from across California and from neighboring states sent crews to battle the horrific wildfires that scorched many parts of Southern California in late October and early November. Here, crew members from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District are shown conferring with Paul Stachura (right), vice president of claims for Fireman's Fund®, while inspecting a house in the San Diego area. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District is just one of many fire departments that have received Fireman's Fund Heritage® grants.
